The People's Republic of Southern Yemen, consisting of Aden and its protectorates, was proclaimed in November 1967 following the independence of the Federation of South Arabia. It was renamed to the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1970, and united with North Yemen in 1990 to form the Republic of Yemen.
